seam collective's A Visible THREAD exhibition, Wirth Gallery, Sherborne Girls' School, Sherborne, Dorset 6 -27 January 2024.
seam collective's A Visible THREAD exhibition was an Arts Council-funded, 4-venue tour in the South West of England. The official tour began in May 2023 and will finish at the end of August 2024. This exhibition at the gorgeous Wirth Gallery was a bonus A Visible THREAD exhibition! We were invited to exhibit at Sherborne Girls' School in Sherborne, Dorset, and just a few of the seam members took part. It's been wonderful to be part of the whole tour!
The works in this iteration of the exhibition showcase an innovative range of textile materials and processes from eight seam members:
Angie Parker
Joy Merron
Lydia Needle
Nina Gronw Lewis
Lou Baker
Julie Heaton
Helen MacRitchie
Jane Colquhoun
Find out more about the exhibition in the blog post I wrote for the seam website, New year, New exhibition!
This is a video of four of the exhibiting artists talking about their work - Julie Heaton, Lou Baker, Joy Merron and Lydia Needle.
Many thanks to artist in residence and curator, Lillie Ayre, for all her support and to Sherborne Girls' for hosting us. Follow seam collective on Instagram @seam_collective and visit our website seamcollective.org
Because there were just a few of us exhibiting, there was plenty of room, so I installed one of my participatory netting dens. I called it Safety Net. For more information about this see the page Safety net.
